Spiritualized Drop NSFW Video for ‘Hey Jane’

Spacey-druggy-psychy guitar god legends Spiritualized are back with a brand new album and a brand new single, “Hey Jane,” for which they’ve just released a brand new video. Directed by AG Rojas, the clip chronicles a day or two in the life of a trans woman as she tries to juggle day care, multiple jobs (some legal, some not) and simply staying alive, all over a familiar-sounding guitar freakout. It’s ten minutes long and not entirely safe for work, but it’s a must-watch if you’ve got the time or the office privacy. (It also gets kind of uncomfortable and violent at the end, but you’ve been warned.)

Speaking to NME about the new album, band leader Jason Pierce said, “I always shy away from anything I write that sounds like a pop song, things like ‘Soul On Fire‘ or ‘Stop Your Crying.’ This time I’m embracing songs like that and seeing what happens. I’m not fighting it any more.” It’s hard to say that the previous Spiritualized albums weren’t immensely catchy in their own hazy way, but it’ll be interesting to see what comes from a more overt, guilt-free approach to pop. A Top 10 single? Studio time spent backing up Beyonce for an unreleased album? A performance on The Voice, followed by a stint with Team Cee-Lo? Make it so, J-Pierce.

Sweet Heart Sweet Light is out on April 17; you can pre-order the “Hey Jane” single from Domino.
