Not content to have models walk down a runway like everyone else, Opening Ceremony has recruited Spike Jonze, who in turn has recruited Jonah Hill, to create a one-act play for New York Fashion Week. This is a good idea. Everyone loves Spike Jonze, who by all accounts is a creative genius, and Jonah Hill is also very talented and good. The Opening Ceremony show just became the most anticipated at NWFW, which is kinda the point.
WWD is reporting that Spike Jonze, who last worked with OC on the famously high-waisted wardrobe for Her, had the idea for the play, and that the story line, which will include both models and actors, is in the final stages of realization. “We were really excited about him writing an original script and seeing how this would take shape,” Leon said. The last time Spike Jonze directed a live performance was for Arcade Fire’s performance of “Afterlife” at the YouTube awards, which featured Greta Gerwig and a bunch of kids dancing their faces off. It was pretty great. The September 7 show has officially moved to the top of our “Thing to see at NYFW” list, bumping the Juicy Couture show from the top spot.
