In what appears to the year’s most shameless use of social capital, rap star of 2007 “Crank That” fame Soulja Boy has been using his Facebook page to increase views for a series of disgustingly misogynistic articles. But hey, when you’re not making money off your shitty music, you’re inevitably desperate for alternative sources of income, right?
With more than 9 million Facebook likes, it’s clear Soulja Boy’s been using this lofty number of fans (how does he still have fans?) to shamelessly market the page as a platform for outsiders to use and direct traffic to their click-bait stories. The result of this transparent business venture is a series of grueling headlines and images that all objectify women.
One article reads, “These Camel Toes Will Make You Weak at the Knees,” promising 30 pictures alongside a “personal” writeup from Soulja Boy eloquently saying, “I love these things.” As you continue scrolling down the infinitely sexist Facebook posts, another article says, “These are the WORST Kind of Boobs,” followed by a roundup of “Shy and Not So Shy Oiled Up Girls.”
A clear abuse of his celebrity status and social media presence, we’re surprised no one’s yet to call out the man whose Facebook is riddled with more throwaway stories about clitorises than any real music. See a sampling of what we’re talking about, below:
