Charles Rocher refers to himself in his promotional materials as a “Parisian celestial enthusiast,” and “terraform futurist”, which doesn’t really sound like it means anything when you read it. But when you hear the music from the French producer, aka Equateur, things start to take make sense. His latest, “Absolut”, a collaboration with Sophie Tith, who in 2013 became the youngest ever winner of Nouvelle Star, France’s Pop Idol, is a stylish promenade of buzzing synths and romantic vocals.
“The song talks about a mental cell and when ghosts or demons pursue you. The only way to escape from anguish is to run and recover your freedom when you are scared of death,” he explains of the song. “Here the salvation comes from the sweetness, comfort and love represented here by the Sophie-Tith’s vocals in the chorus.”
