I refrain from watching the People’s Choice Awards because a) I don’t have cable and b) who even are these people and what the hell do they know? But the Internet informed me that at least one kinda-hilarious thing did occur on last night’s broadcast: some random dude went all Kanye West and stormed the stage, interrupting the acceptance speech be given by the ladies of daytime TV show The Talk (yes, the People’s Choice Awards have an award for “Favorite Daytime Hosting Team,” just another reason why this award show is garbage).
Sara Gilbert was saying her thank yous to “The People” when a fella in a red leather jacket hops on stage, grabs the mic and starts plugging rapper Kevin Gates’ new album. If that isn’t old school hustle, I don’t know what is.
The dude has been identified by The Hollywood Reporter as Zacari Nicasio, an attention seeker who also crashed Kris Jenner’s 60th birthday party last year. Nicasio my man, you’ve gotta start choosing events that aren’t so lame. After plugging the album, he gave a shoutout to Kanye, who undoubtedly inspired the stunt, saying “Yeezy jumped over the jumpman.” Alrighty then.
Anyway, the reaction from the ladies of The Talk is the real highlight here. Sheryl Underwood begins with a guttural “nuh uh, nuh uh, nuh uh” while Sharon Osbourne begins aggressively kicking the air in Nicasio’s general direction. Meanwhile, Julie Chen is pulling a “Oh no he didn’t” face that would probably become a meme if she was more famous. When they succeed in retrieving the statue, Underwood says, “You ain’t gonna pull no Steve Harvey up in here.” It’s an ironic statement, as she herself was pulling a Steve Harvey by referencing the Miss Universe host rather than Kanye West.
Nicasio was taken in handcuffs but later released, free to cause a minor ruckus at the next mediocre Hollywood gathering.
