The countdown until the apocalypse—I mean, Trump’s inauguration—has begun. On January 20, the President Elect will be sworn in, as the American public cries—I mean, watches. And while Trump has had trouble trying to convince literally anyone to perform at the ceremony, an alternative event, called the Peace Ball: Voices of Hope and Resistance, has snagged Solange.
Slated as a celebration of “the accomplishments and successes of the past four years,” Peace Ball organizer, Andy Shallal, says the event is not a protest of Trump, but rather a “vow to continue to be the change we want to see in the world.”
“Over the last four years, there’s been progress on marriage equality, criminal justice reform, and health care,” he said. “We don’t always take the time to stand back and look at this great stuff and celebrate.
With a guest list packed full of celebrities and activists, from Angela Davis to Fran Drescher, the Peace Ball aims to bring people together, and it definitely won’t be a funeral for the U.S.A.
“I’ve got no patience for sadness,” said Shallal. “It’s never about one person. This is a hopeful moment for a lot of people.”
