Slip Into a State of Ecstatic Frenzy With This Greek-Inspired Fashion Film

Director duo Fabio Piemonte and Mauro Fiorito reflected on ancient Greek mythology to create their collaborative fashion film, “MAENAD,” a title that directly translates as, “raving one.”

In the intoxicating clip, we see a half-nude protagonist, who’s slowly, eerily contorting her frail body through an ambiguous, dimly lit forest; close-up shots of her surrounded by billowing smoke are challenging and chill-inducing. Manchester, England composer THF Drenching lends his freely improvised soundscape to the visual, adding to the mysterious, organic intensity of Piemonte and Fiorito’s work.

According to the directors, “the Maenads were portrayed as inspired by [Greek God] Dionysus into a state of ecstatic frenzy through a combination of dancing and drunken intoxication. In this state, they would lose all self-control, begin shouting excitedly and engage in an uncontrolled, ritualistic hunt down.” Watch the BULLETT exclusive, below.
