In what might be the ultimate embodiment of the utter garbage that was 2016, Time has named Donald Trump its “Person of the Year.” This, of course, comes as no surprise to anyone. Once again, Hillary Clinton came in at number two.
Given that the magazine’s Person of the Year is named “for better or worse,” Trump is particularly apt. His cover bares the subheading “President of the Divided States of America” – he didn’t really like that. “When you say divided states of America, I didn’t divide them. They’re divided now,” Trump said over the phone to the Today show shortly after the announcement. “I mean there’s a lot of division, and we’re going to put it back together and we’re going to have a country that’s very well healed.” Sure we are.
Meanwhile, TIme’s editor Nancy Gibbs said selecting Trump was “one of the more straightforward” choices. Sigh.
