War, illicit affairs, monumental father/son moments, trench coats. No, this is not the trailer for an epic Christmas blockbuster, it is Burberry’s new campaign, which tells the very sexy story of the brand’s founder, Thomas Burberry. The film, which marks the brand’s 160th anniversary (damn Burberry, you’re old), features a too-good-to-be-true cast of Sienna Miller, Domhnall Gleeson, Lily James and Dominic West.
The film tells the story of Thomas, played by Gleeson, founding his eponymous brand, inventing gabardine (the material that would go on to protect both British soldiers as well as wealthy, fashionable women from the elements) and engaging in sexy affairs. In fact, Burberry’s tale is so rich it’s surprising it hasn’t been adapted into a movie.
Given that it isn’t a movie and rather a fashion film, the whole thing is hilariously over-the-top, particularly given its epic score. Did they really go back in time to show a touching moment between a young Thomas and his father? You bet your ass they did.
Still, this cast is awesome and, let’s face it, we’d totally see this movie.
