Scarlett Johansson is a musician, philanthropist, producer, writer, and four-time Golden Globe-nominated actor who can currently be seen as Black Widow opposite Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans in the superhero smorgasbord The Avengers. Her boyfriend, Nate Naylor, is an advertising creative director and avid art collector with an eye for outré works (check out his Tumblr, Up in Guts). As the guest curators of BULLETT’s Sin Issue art portfolio, they chose six artists whose pieces are challenging, innovative and deliciously debauched.
“John’s work is managed chaos,” Naylor says of the 35-year-old New York-based artist. “He orchestrates and drags 462,679 colors in one brushstroke, and somehow makes things make sense. Not only does he paint orgies—his actual paint is an orgy of acrylics. Spending time with any of his pieces is mind-blowing.” When asked to describe the most deranged piece of art he’s ever seen, Copeland says, “My friend has a big bronze sculpture of a penis-fingered hand that someone brought him from the dump. I don’t know if it’s deranged, but it definitely grosses everyone out.”
Copeland’s latest solo exhibition, “Answers to Questions I Never Asked,” is on view at Copenhagen’s V1 Gallery until June 30.
