‘SCALES’ by Mykki Blanco: ‘I’m Solange in the Elevator, Watch Your Ass’

“I’m Solange in the elevator, watch your ass,” raps Mykki Blanco in his latest Jeremiah Meece-produced single, “SCALES,” delivering the first full taste of new music since teasing listeners on Facebook a while back.

The C-ORE emcee has been quietly sitting on this verse for a minute, having originally included a Katie Got Bandz assisted-track, “Solange in the Elevator,” on the tracklist for his full-length mixtape Gay Dog Food. “The song is just basically a bad girl anthem about letting people who think they can manipulate you know that they can’t,” said Blanco in our 2014 Papermag interview.

Unfortunately, the collaboration never saw the light of day, so we’ve been patiently waiting for some iteration of the unreleased cut to be unveiled. Although the Solange vs. Jay Z elevator fight isn’t as culturally relevant as it would’ve been two years ago, Blanco’s single is still absolute fire. Listen, below:
