There’s an argument made by dyed-in-wool liberals that goes something like this: President Obama campaigned on the promise that he would advance an unapologetically progressive approach toward government, a promise which he’s reneged upon several times. (Failing to close Guantanamo Bay; expanding drone warfare; signing the National Defense Authorization Act; you name it.) Thusly, liberals who turned out to the election booths in enthusiastic droves the first time around shouldn’t give him another vote of confidence. In one sense, this is a reasonable, principled, no-compromise attitude toward the liberties politicians feel they can take with their campaign promises. On the other hand, do you realize what the alternative is?
Samuel L. Jackson, a fervent Obama supporter, seems to agree that the current president is the best we’ve got, despite any of those disappointments. (Because 40% of a disappointment is better than 95% crazy, goes the argument.) To help convince unconvinced voters, he’s recorded a promotional video entitled “Wake the Fuck Up” with the help of the Jewish Council for Education & Research in which he admonishes said voters by appearing in their homes and reminding them of the good Obama will do in a second term — as well as the bad Romney parts. It’s narrated like a children’s book, and features enough good lines/scenes to find its way toward a Tumblr near you. Such as:
Sorry, my friend, but there’s no time to snore.
And out-of-touch millionaires just declared war.
On schools, the environment, unions, fair pay.
We’re all on our own if Romney has his way.
And he’s against safety nets, if you fall, tough luck.
So I strongly suggest that you wake the fuck up.
A liberal super-PAC with ties to George Soros using profanity and blackness to make the case for Obama? Rush Limbaugh’s kidneys just shut down from rage.
