Saint Saviour Debuts the Best-Ever Cover of M83’s “Midnight City”

+

If you put a gun to our head and forced us to choose, we’d probably have to admit that M83’s “Midnight City” has been the song of the year ever since it came out last summer. (Please stop pointing that gun around though, it’s kind of an aggressive move for a music discussion.)

It’s surprising then, considering the song’s ubiquity, from commercials, to film trailers, to every basic-ass bro’s car stereo, that there haven’t been more covers of it released. Maybe there are a lot fewer saxophone players out there than we’d previously imagined?  Saint Saviour aims to correct that woeful oversight with her just-released cover. The London-based singer has previously covered Depeche Mode and Siouxie and the Banshees, so at least we know she has good taste. Her quietly dreamy take on the song tones down the sparkling grandeur of the original, and trades it for an echoing, reserved introspection. (via RCRDLBL)
