Ryan Gosling is the OG internet boyfriend. All these newfangled internet boyfriends (Benedict Cumberbatch, Oscar Isaac, Tom Hiddleston before Taylor Swift) are cute and all, but they don’t hold a candle to the guy from The Notebook who said “It wasn’t over, it still isn’t over.”
Gosling has that soulful puppy dog thing. He’s Canadian. He picks romantic roles and says romantic things in interviews. He’s handsome af. He’s the kinda guy your mom would approve of. These and so many other reasons are why the “Hey Girl” meme came to be – we know that. Gosling, however, does not.
“I’ve never said that,” he tells Variety, seemingly confused about how the Internet even works.
Gosling, do you think that Joe Biden said all that stuff we’re saying he said? Do you even meme, bro?
Anyway, he has a predictably charming description as to what it feels like to become a meme:
“Do you remember when Fabio got hit in the face with a pigeon on the roller coaster and it broke his nose. Sometimes I feel like I’m the pigeon and the internet is Fabio’s face… Actually, I don’t know if I’m the pigeon or I’m Fabio’s face. Depends on the day, I guess.”
TBH I don’t remember – it was probably pre dank memes.
