Making a full-fledged foray into music, Rose McGowan released today a freaky new fashion film for her single, “RM486,″ produced by Parisian electro band Punishment. The Jonas Åkerlund-directed clip opens with a naked and bald McGowan covered entirely in white paint to represent the Alien, one of five characters she embodies throughout the video. The other personas include Dark Beauty, Green Hair Hollywood, Needles, Red Glitter Bomb and Art.
“All five characters in the video are versions of me,” the breakout singer said. “All are pieces that make up my whole—an artist, a public figure, and most importantly, as a person. I’m pushing back at the idea of what I am supposed to be, I want to expose people to art in a real way, and I want to change the idea of what beauty is. There is true power in art and true power in we who believe in it.”
There’s an exciting relationship between the video’s visuals, which share a similar intensity to Brooke Candy’s Steven Klein-directed “Opulence,” and the song’s delicate, puttering sound. The match is unexpected, heightened by McGowan’s haunted lyrics and robotic, droning vocals. Watch, below.
