Pop music in 2016 already looks promising thanks to rising duo Cardiknox, who’s sure to be a major player in the new wave of Top 40 radio contenders this year. Yesterday, Lonnie Angle and Thomas Dutton revealed a taste of their forthcoming debut album, Portrait, slated for release March 11, and it’s a strong example of the pair’s potential.
“On My Way” is a full-fledged anthem, lyrically armed with blithe optimism and sonically reflective of pounding ’80s dance floor fillers. “I’m not gonna stop,” Angle wails. “I’m driving through the night with my tank on empty.” There’s a captivating underdog innocence to the track, as the duo’s shown powering through the streets of downtown LA with choreography by Justin Timberlake dance troupe member Natalie Gilmore.
If this breakout single is any indicator, we’ll be seeing a lot of Cardiknox in the near future, and not only because they’ll be joining The Knocks’ tour, starting Jan. 23 at Brooklyn’s Baby’s All Right. Watch the unstoppable clip, below, and if you’re craving more, the lyric video is pretty fucking fabulous, too.
