Our favorite DJ Jus Ske is doing a Biggie tribute set at 1OAK this Sunday. The Notorious B.I.G has been dead almost 18 years, murdered by rivals associated with 2Pac in Los Angeles. Monday is the anniversary of his murder.
This is not the first Jus Ske Biggie tribute.
About seven years ago, at since shuttered Chelsea club Mr. West, Jus Ske spun a set for an audience that included Jay Z and his one friend and maybe 15-20 others. The room was dark and nearly empty, but the energy pitch perfect. Jigga stayed for hours dancing with his one (male) friend and mouthing along verses. Jus killed b-sides, rare mixes and did a solid 20-minute block of Jay-Big collabs. It was one of the best, most intimate music experiences of my life. Jay walked out at 3:45am to a waiting SUV; my head was so full of Biggie songs I’d never heard before I downloaded twenty mixtapes the next day. There’s like nine trillion of them on Datpiff.
Come out Sunday and hear some of what you might have missed. Biggie’s Junior M.A.F.I.A cohort Lil Kim is hosting. Never forget this song:
