One of the more memorable characters from Spring Breakers is Alien, the mysterious hustler played by James Franco in what seemed like a clear imitation of RiFF RaFF, who was rumored to have been originally offered the part by director Harmony Korine. Franco played coy about how much of his performance and appearance had been drawn from RiFF RaFF, drawing the rapper’s cartoonish ire. (It goes without saying that the lines between reality and unreality are very blurred.) Now, RiFF RaFF’s responded as only RiFF RaFF could: by mirroring the imitation and signing up to play a character named “Jamie Franko” on the popular soap opera One Life to Live.
You might remember Franco’s career as a recurring guest star on General Hospital, which means this is a parody that goes even further down the rabbit hole. RiFF RaFF’s “Franko” will be a Miami art dealer who’ll appear on a May 7 episode, in what I’m sure will gather the highest ratings amongst the 18-29 rap blogger demographic that One Life to Live has ever done. It’s fascinating to wonder how this will go down because RiFF RaFF is capable of sounding not like himself—on his highly entertaining Vine feed, he frequently adopts what might uncharitably be described as a typical white guy voice, rather than the court jester patois that usually spills out of his mouth.
