Rick Owens Punches Model Backstage at Paris Fashion Week

+

Designer Rick Owens is typically welcoming to a controversial—at times penis-baring—runway presentation, but today during Paris Fashion Week, one model overstepped his boundaries. Known as one of Owens’ 12-year-long token muses, a model named Jera stormed the catwalk with a handmade sign reading, “Please Kill Angela Merkel,” followed by the word, “Not.” The protest, referencing Germany’s chancellor, didn’t have a clear purpose, though many have argued it could’ve been alluding to Greece’s debt.

Eager to separate himself from the event, Owens’ camp released the following statement: “This was an independent statement and does not reflect the opinion of the house of Rick Owens.” A very PC claim, though it doesn’t address reports that Owens punched Jera once he stepped backstage and had him immediately removed from the show premises. The actual SS ’16 presentation, complete with bizarre head-wrapping hair pieces, was a standard, strong Owens display, though we’re certain no one will be talking about the clothes, today.
