Trump supporter and staunch Republican, Caitlyn Jenner, stunned the audience at an American Unity Fund event this morning, when she proposed her own bathroom ban.
“Over the last few years, we’ve had three Republican state representatives—Jon Hinson, Larry Craig, and Bob Allen—who were all arrested for lewd behavior in a men’s bathroom,” she said. “[…] Maybe what we should do is ban Republican representatives at a state level from being in bathrooms.”
The American Unity Fund is a group dedicated to “showcasing conservative support for LGBTQ freedom,” and today’s “Big Tent Brunch” was held at the RNC in Ohio. In her speech, Jenner argued for the end of laws like North Carolina’s “bathroom bill,” saying trans people have never been a threat to bathroom safety. Instead, she said rules like the one in North Carolina pose a real danger to the trans community.
“The biggest problem is we have a terrible suicide rate of young kids,” she said. “Bullying is the biggest problem, not fitting in, suffering from tremendous depression. Now you’re telling me that the state of North Carolina is going to come in and bully them too?”
Still a Republican, Jenner wants to change her party’s view of the LGBTQ community, urging them to enact change.
She concluded, “I would tell Donald that these are people out there who have been marginalized for so many years,” adding, “It’s about the next generation growing up, and we have to provide a safe environment for them. That’s by far the most important thing.”
