Raf Simons, Jil Sander‘s creative director since 2005, is rumored to be severing ties with the fashion label in order to become the head of Dior, who in recent weeks booted its number-one contender, Marc Jacobs, out of the running. But even though Simons’ recent work shows intimations of couture, his overall streamlined aesthetic is quite anathema to Dior’s extravagant design history. Could this signal a new direction for the French fashion house? Possibly, but until that final contract is signed, we’ll be left wondering what Dior’s future holds.
