On Halloween night, Puff Daddy pulled up to Marquee nightclub on a horse and carriage, trumpets thundering around him. He dismounted to paparazzi flashes, sporting a majestic all-white robe, before entering the club alongside TAO partner Noah Tepperberg and becoming the evening’s all-powerful emperor. He rapped his greatest hits, thrusting up a handle of Ciroc as rap and EDM controlled a room of vampires and werewolves. Spectacle became fantasy.
Puff Daddy’s continued his reign by dropping a new album of sheer hellfire. On MMM, anyone who’s anyone in hip-hop is assembled for an artillery of flat-out bangers that’s equal parts Machiavellian poetry, equal parts homage to the greatest living rapper in the game. Future recites his signature schizophrenic trap-ballads, before French Montana and Wiz Khalifa coyly play lyrical hot potato, transitioning to dark macabre short stories from Big Sean and Travis$ Scott. It’s an ambitious world of Power that fuses the new with the old, Puff Daddy meticulously ruling over all of it.
