Sharks have been in the news a lot lately, from a spate of attacks in North Carolina, to the rescue of a Great White in Massachusetts this month. But this video of professional surfer Mick Fanning, one of the top ranked surfers in the world, fending off an attack from a shark in Australia during a competition is pretty hard to beat in terms of terrifying close-calls.
“I was just sitting there and I felt something just get stuck in my leg rope, and I was kicking trying to get it away,” Fanning said after the brush with death.
“I just saw fins. I was waiting for the teeth,” he added that he “I punched it in the back.”
