Photography: Ethan James Green/Proenza Schouler
Proenza Schouler’s pre-fall lookbook features the label’s classic, covetable bags, bold-yet-wearable patterns, and fresh, asymmetric cuts. But this time, there’s an addition that’s somehow even more exciting than the clothes: Stav Strashko, Torraine Futurum, and Marcs Marcus, three up-and-coming transgender models, who pose alongside Michelle Gutknecht and Emm Arruda. It’s a beautiful, diverse cast and they’re making me seriously desire a bucket bag and a spotted coat.
The lookbook was shot by model-turned-photographer James Ethan Green (who you may remember from Calvin Klein’s 2015 “sexting” campaign), who says he simply cast a mix of models he knew and had worked with before.
“The mix felt right and the overall message of diversity very contemporary,” designers Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough told The Cut. “The whole thing felt like the New York we know.” Sounds like they’ve been spending some time with Public School’s Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne — you know, the ones who want to “Make America New York.”
