The latest from indie-pop outfit Yassou will easily make you feel some type of way. I didn’t wake up this morning expecting to feel nostalgic for my teenage years and rich summer nights, drinking my first Four Loko and listening to music with old friends, but here we are.
Directed by Amy Harrity, the dreamy new music video follows a group of friends blithe with laughter in the backseat of a car—a pleasant pastime for most, if not all of suburban youth.
“I had found the perfect group of boys—twin brothers—but I couldn’t find a girl,” explains lead singer Lilie Bytheway about casting the video. “In frustration, I decided to picture the perfect scenario—my sister, Wren, would fly out from New York; and she did and made the part.”
Juxtaposing shots of Bytheway driving solo with a sleeping lover in the back, the track’s ambient and intoxicating sound sets the mood perfectly. Warm colors and themes of isolation are evocative of the 2011 film Drive, complete with a tragic twist at the end.
