With their latest video, Brooklyn art-rockers, WRITER, combine their lo-fi roots with modern technology, fusing “Art Fair,” a catchy track from their recently released sophomore LP, Principle Web, with 360-degree virtual reality.
Directed by Sarah Tricker, “Art Fair” is a “virtual reality free-for-all,” with the viewer deciding where to look at any given moment. The band parties in an empty pharmaceutical warehouse among dancing friends, hypnotizing the audience as they play—brothers Andy and James Ralph, and multi-instrumentalist Joshua Greco ease their listener into a dream-like trance with droning guitars and reverb-soaked vocals.
“This lo-fi virtual reality video wouldn’t have been possible without the help of our friends who showed up and danced their butts off all night,” Tricker said. “They really activated the zombie-esque space.”
Started by the Ralph brothers, WRITER released their debut album, Brotherface, in 2012. Their follow-up, Principle Web, is filled with fuzzed-out neo-grunge anthems woven together by the duo’s poppy lyrics and gritty guitars.
