It might take two, three or 10 times of watching the newest visual from rapper Zebra Katz and producer Leila to fully absorb all the stunning imagery and eerie scenes that unfold during its impressive 12-minute span. The epic video was captured in Vienna over the summer by directors Florian Pochlatko, Randy Sterling and Katz, using a grant from the Austrian government to help fund production.
“Leila and I were able to spend three weeks in Vienna playing shows, making music and attending openings at the opera,” Katz said. “We had some crazy times and insane experiences while immersing ourselves in the scene.”
With hopes to bring viewers deeper into the hard-hitting, ominous world of Katz’s Nu Renegade collaboration with Leila, the stunning video highlights three key songs, opening with the EP title track “Nu Renegade,” before progressing into “Fucking Beast” and closing with “What U Want.”
“The whole shooting process was adventurous as hell,” Pochlatko said. “It was the most difficult shooting process I’ve ever had, with so many logistics involved [and] all run by a small bunch of people, but that’s where the magic happens—when you get the feeling things could get out of control. Once, we where seriously attacked by Austrian countryside rednecks in Lederhosen because they thought we were crazy burglars. We had to skip the whole shooting day and crew members had to go to the hospital. The next day, one of the other crew members freaked out because of mental health issues. That kind of describes the energy this whole shooting.”
