It’s Halloween and I’ve spent most of my workday looking for spooky shit online. But since reality is scary enough, I’ve landed on video artist Jeannette Deron’s fashion film “REIGN”–and it wins for beautiful, creepy imagery that veers slightly into religious symbolism and fully makes me want to become a witch, so boo, or whatever. Showcasing the quietly regal designs of DeL’Hacienda, and starring co-designer Dru Acosta, the film follows a man’s solitary journey into the forest. Old Hollywood-style glamour shots of Acosta splice into footage of him bathing in honey and drinking tea with a snake, as the sky turns red and the soundscape grows increasingly intense. According to Deron, the film embodies “self-discovery, temptation, and sacrifice.” It’s darkly sexy in an Eyes Wide Shut kind of way, and it will probably make you want to dress in a silk gown and spend the night running through the forest. Which is actually the perfect way to spend Halloween.
