In lieu of International Women’s Day today, we’re thrilled to unveil the visual for Australian vocalist Vanessa Elisha’s new single, “Out of Time.” The sultry, slow-burning song fuses Elisha’s whispery vocals with intricate production by XXYYXX’s Marcel Everrett, the Floridian talent behind 2012’s buzz-track, “About You.” A natural musical match, this isn’t the pair’s first time together, having first teamed up in 2014 on Everrett’s own, “Unknown.”

For the music video, Elisha pulled inspiration from her middle eastern heritage, writhing inside a clear box in reference to the end of Aladdin, where Jasmine gets trapped in an hourglass—a literal representation of “running out of time,” featuring a sleek, stylized set with plenty of red laser lights for a sexy, subversive edge. She’s an undeniable artist to watch in 2016, riding in a similar lane as contemporary crooners FKA Twigs and Banks.
