You don’t have to be Beyoncé to live like Beyoncé, Lola Blanc tells us of her new track.
“‘Like Beyoncé’ is about being super poor but not caring because you know you’re going to run shit anyway,” the one time child ventriloquist, who, with her mother, narrowly escaped the clutches of a Utah con-man who claimed to be the Mormon prophet.
Not your every day musician bio.
“Even if all you can afford to eat is knockoff cereal, you’re confident enough to know those things don’t define you. Money has always been scarce in my life, and sometimes I freak out about it because I’m human, but I think if you work really hard on the things that are important, that part will come.”
“I chose Beyoncé because she’s the epitome of a powerful woman,” Lola explains. “She’s a boss and works her ass off to live the life that she wants. Obviously no one can be Beyonce, but I think you can live that lifestyle regardless of how much money you have, because it’s not about the money. It’s about confidence, ambition, and hard work. Beyoncé is a state of mind!”
Beyoncé is also a purveyor of delectable, danceable pop music, and while Blanc’s music here is a far cry from her style, it’s got an undeniable pop appeal.
