Rising songstress Coco Morier has written some of your favorite songs. From Sky Ferreira’s “99 Tears” to Britney Spears’ “How I Roll,” Morier’s been penning pop bangers for the last nine years. Now, she’s emerging from behind the scenes with her debut album, Dreamer—a passionate project about “doomed love, full of heartache and female anarchy” that combines neo-soul with ’80s pop and Morier’s dreamy vocals.
“Dreamer is a hodgepodge of all the musical styles I love, from sad robot music and eerie fuzzed-out guitars, to space disco, freestyle, Italo and ’80s art pop,” she said. “I love to write songs about firestorm romance—some kind of profound love caught in the middle of a panic attack when you feel like hyperventilating, kissing and then falling on the floor.”
Her breakout album showcases Morier’s natural ability to write an immediate pop hook, heightened by her seductive voice. Lead single and album opener, “No Pressure,” sounds like Blondie, Blood Orange and a punky version of Toni Basil’s “Hey Mickey,” while the remaining tracks follow a similar theme, mixing ’80s nostalgia with a modern twist.
Dreamer, out July 8, is available for pre-order, here. Until then, stream the entire album exclusively through BULLETT, below.
