Wouldn’t it be nice if every time someone said something you didn’t like, or told you no, you could disappear into an alternate reality? Bonus points if everyone in that alternate reality is a cat, because that’s exactly what happens in Kristeen Young‘s new music video. Directed by Brian McClelland, “Catland” is a Lynchian ode to drummer Baby Jef’s 5-year-old daughter, and her ingenious way of dealing with her parents.

“Whenever someone is trying to tell her she’s doing something wrong, she’ll defiantly say, ‘But that’s how we do it in Catland!'” explains Young. “I wrote the song and based the video on her experience. […] I like that she’s created a fantasy world that gives her the strength to say ‘no.'”

The track itself is a hard rock opus, part Iggy Pop, part Siouxsie Sioux. And in a world where Trump is president, I wouldn’t mind staying in Catland forever.
