Say what you will about ping pong, but it’s usually not at the top of the list of the sexiest, or scariest, games. All that changes in “Ping Pong With Angels”, the new video from Film. The Greek avante-garde pop trio set their hypnotic, robotic laser-synth video game blast to a slow motion game between two demonically-masked players, who seem like they’re playing for something a little more higher stakes than in the usual bar game. Maybe the fate of the world?
“It’s the opening song of our album, but it definitely has the feeling of a film’s closing credits tune,” the band explain. “Sci-fi nostalgic, between laser beams and 80’s Blade Runner-esque soundtrack recollections, we guess it’s a retro futuristic slow mo robo-romantic story.”
“Getting it dark and hypnotic was definitely the task at hand but, like the ’80s loving people that we are, we wanted a touch of humour in there,” director Gregory Rentis says. “I guess there is something ultra-literal about the video and the song, which interestingly enough makes it dreamier. At the end of the day, when you get the chance to shoot a game of ping-pong, you better grab it.”
Film’s new LP “Eclipse” is out September 26 on Inner Ear Records
