Introducing ROMANCE, the Brooklyn-based lovechild of producer Yung Diamond and Avan Lava frontman TC Milan. Where Avan Lava revels in polished pop production, this project is more lo-fi with a stripped, synth-driven sound evocative of Dutch duo Vengaboys. The two decided to start ROMANCE in spring ’14 as a means to channel their mutual loneliness into something more positive and musical. Their forthcoming self-titled EP will explore “the search for true love and happiness in this vast, sometimes cruel world,” according to Milan.
The project’s lead single, “Paradise,” which we’re thrilled to premiere exclusively on Bullett, spearheads this late ’90s sonic space. Milan’s soft, sensitive vocals slosh smoothly throughout Diamond’s nostalgic, staccato production like the menu music to an old Nintendo game. Campy tropical sounds flutter throughout the chorus, while Milan optimistically chants the hook, “We’re living in a paradise; we could do whatever we like; this ain’t your typical life; we’re living in a paradise.” Stream the first taste of ROMANCE below, and check out their live debut Feb. 13 at Cameo Gallery.
