The 757 (that’s Norfolk, Virginia, for those who don’t know) stays churning out talent, from Clipse, to Pharrell, to Lil Internet and Shomi Patwary, who directed the highly rewatchable video for A$AP Ferg’s “Work.” For every name you’ve heard of, there are at least as many local artists on the rise, doing cool, niche projects that have them well on their way to national credibility. Photographer Richard Perkins—whose stark, moody, and mostly candid pics recently earned a rare “batshit crazy” rating from Vice—is one of those artists.
He just launched a collaborative capsule collection with Clipse’s own apparel company, Play Cloths, creating a limited run of shirts, shorts and hat covered in Perkins’ signature snaps. To celebrate its launch, I asked Perkins to take his product out into the wild and shoot us the “B-Side” lookbook that only a true southern weirdo could. Pieces from the collaboration are available via Play Cloths’ site, as well as IRL at Norfolk shop, Cream.
Don’t forget the rest of Perkins’ body of work, if you want the full experience.
