Marking her 10th season, London designer Phoebe English presented her fall ’16 collection at the ICA with a selection of 10 looks, each representing a different character to reflect the various materials and processes behind her aesthetic. The presentation space was transformed into a waiting room, where models were staged to appear as if endlessly waiting for their ticket to be finally called.
With a color palette of black, midnight blue, bright white and deep plum, handcrafted textiles were presented as asymmetrical, draped garments. English’s experimentation further included shredded sequins, knitting with elastic and hand-torn monochrome silks, creating a dynamic contrast in materials. Her collection featured collaborations with two other designers: John Smedley for her shrunken knits and Hereu for this season’s footwear. Watch the presentation, below:
