The art world’s favorite feminist, Petra Collins, has put together a special event at MoMA this Saturday. As part of the museum’s ongoing series aimed at bringing art to younger audiences, Collins has teamed up with friend and frequent collaborator Madelyne Beckles to curate a digital salon and performance by Junglepussy. Inspired by Lorraine O’Grady’s 1992 essay, “Olympia’s Maid: Reclaiming Black Female Subjectivity,” In Search Of Us will be a multimedia ode to the female form featuring a live tableau that will confront representation throughout history and the systematic erasure of the Other. With sets designed by Lauren Nikrooz and costumes by Zara Mirkin, as well as contributions from Beckles, Grace Miceli and Aleia Murawski, the performance will explore changing definitions of body image and female sexuality in the digital world.
PopRally Presents Petra Collins: In Search Of Us opens tomorrow, March 18, at 8pm. Learn more about the event, here.
