Elijah Wood and Orlando Bloom will forever be linked by their mutual desire to see the One Ring destroyed in Mount Doom, but today, in a bit of movie marketing synchronicity, Middle-earth’s finest are linked in another, more unexpected way. Trailers for their upcoming projects have simultaneously surfaced, and they boy are they scary.
In Wood’s Maniac, which premieres this week at Cannes, he plays a serial killer with a Psycho-esque obsession with his dead mom, who enjoys dressing his collection of mannequins in the scalps and clothes of his victims, because how else would he get off? It’s a surprisingly ghoulish turn for the actor, who still looks like a teenager. Maniac is a more artful remake of the schlocky 1980 original, infamous for scenes that were considered graphic and disturbing at the time. Watch Elijah Wood freak the f*ck out, below.
The Good Doctor, on the other hand, is more thriller than slasher, with Bloom playing a handsome quack who gets attached to one of his patients (Elvis’ granddaughter and rising star Riley Keough) and turns to increasingly desperate methods to keep her sick and under his watch. Good Doctor? More like bad one!
