Bay Area exports, SWMRS, are the modern-day embodiment of a raucous DIY spirit. Their debut album, Drive North, is packed with surf-punk anthems for teenage rebellion, released last February off the band’s own Uncool Records and recorded with FIDLAR frontman Zac Carper.
With their buzzy ode to Miley Cyrus on “Miley,” and their tribute to an outsider ethos with “Uncool,” SWMRS sound like Take Off Your Pants and Jacket-era Blink-182, mixed with all your favorite pop-punk bands from the early aughts on Adderall—a 30-minute album for stoned youth revolt.
BULLETT partnered with directors Marc Moran and Sam Davis to catch up with SWMRS in Chicago, where they talk about all things punk rock, skateboarding and being on tour. The video documents their wild live performance and follows them as they graffiti the city, smash old television sets and rock leopard coats.
