Here’s some big news for fans of piano-playing singers named Fiona Apple: The hyper-honest musician who stormed onto the music scene in 1996 with her debut album Tidal, is making her long-awaited return to the stage. An unexpected mini-tour was announced on her Facebook page (sweet profile picture!) and her official website is currently displaying the schedule for shows that begin in Chicago on March 19, and then roll through several East Coast cities. Apple will play two dates in New York at the Bowery Ballroom and Brooklyn’s Music Hall of Williamsburg—smallish venues for someone who sold 2.7 million copies of her debut album (although in fairness we paid to hear songs back then). Apple hasn’t toured since 2007 (although she still makes the occasional stage appearance), and her sudden resurrection all but guarantees the imminent release of a new album in 2012. Your move, Cat Power.
