You might have been too busy stressing out about losing the 10k followers you purchased to notice that Instagram added five new filters – the first new filters in over two years.
But even better than the filters themselves (which range in hipsterousness from a little hipster to super fucking hipster) are the names of the filters. I don’t want to jump the gun here, but coming up with names for Instagram filters may have just surpassed coming up with names for nail polish colors as my dream job.
From the brilliant minds that brought you “Toaster” and “Normal” comes Slumber, Crema, Ludwig, Aden and Perpetua.
“They soften and subtly shift colors to achieve the look and feel you want for your each photo,” says Instagram, in a release someone clearly failed to edit.
If you want a slightly less vague description of each filter, Adweek went ahead and reached out to Insta and asked them to break down each one. I like the description of Crema best, because it makes the least sense: “Achieves a creamy, smooth look. We named it Crema because it achieves exactly that – both a warming and cooling effect.”
Personally I’m just hoping they’ll take a few years off my selfies.
