The “RAWR” isn’t coming from the fierce tiger splashed across the front of a scoop back swimsuit. It’s likely from the alluring cuts and images of the new swim wear from We Are Handsome. “[Our customer] has that ‘something’ about her – that something that makes everything go in slo-mo just for a second when you see her,” said Indhra Chagoury, who, with Jeremy Somers, co-designed the We Are Handsome swimwear line.
The vibrant prints of their new swimsuit collection keep the eyes glued. Chagoury and Somers have a strong hold on their Australian roots with 100 percent of the products designed and sewn in their homeland. But it was the bright lights and color of New York City that inspired the new collection, “The Streets,” which releases this week. The urban-edged collection features two new styles: a long sleeve body suit and a full-length maxi.
There is no arguing with the creative collaboration between Chargoury and Somers, who works outward from images suitable to use while his co-designer works inward from an inspiration. Then the two combine and narrow the pictures down to the must haves. Chagoury says, “If we wouldn’t die for it, then it doesn’t get printed.”
We Are Handsome began their first collaboration with Christine Berrie, the Scottish mixed-media artist, who worked with the designers to create the pale orange, boom box print entitled “The Beatboxer.” The duo also worked with Sydney-based photographer Trevor King to incorporate some Las Vegas charm into the suits. “The Motel” dons images shot from King’s trip to Sin City.
