If Tinder had one thing going for it, it was a sense of anonymity. Nobody wants to be on the wrong end of a one-sided attraction, and by only revealing right-swipes when the feeling was mutual, the dating app offered a semblance of security (potential to meet a bunch of freaks and psychopaths notwithstanding).
But the money-hungry overlords at Tinder have put an end to all that. Now, for a cool $5.99 a month, you can see who has already right-swiped you, before you swipe them. The package is dubbed “Tinder Gold” and it’s pretty terrifying, no?
Other features included in the “Gold” package are a passport feature, which allow users to swipe in multiple countries, a rewind, which allows users to “backswipe” and a “boost” feature, which propels your page to the front of the line in your area.
But let’s go back to the part where you can see who already liked you. Part of the fun of Tinder was that you could right-swipe willy nilly with no consequences. And what if you know the person?! Seeing someone you know on Tinder is awkward enough as it is, what if you see someone you know and discover that they’ve already liked you, yet you have no interest in them? What if the reverse happens and you don’t even know it?
Nope, nope nope nope. This is a fail Tinder. If I hadn’t already deleted you, I would delete you again.
