“I wanted to see what happened when Nosferatu and Lolita went to the beach,” director Zack Spiger says of his idea for “Magic.” That’s about as good a summary of the San Cisco video as you’re going to hear, as the tongue in cheek clip from the Australian band makes the metaphor of the love affair between light and dark at the heart of the song literal.
“‘Magic’ is a fantastical song about the sobering realization you might not be in love with someone anymore,” the band’s drummer and singer Scarlett Stephens explains, which sounds a lot less fun than waterskiing with a vampire to be honest.
“Magic” comes from San Cisco’s second LP Gracetown, out now. They’ll be in LA on June 12 at the El Rey Theare, and in New York at the Bowery Ballroom on July 2. Fine more from them here.
