All those desperately searching for the perfect last minute holiday gift can rejoice, as Nordstrom has released a wrapped stone complete with a vegetable-tanned leather pouch. Available in two different sizes, the stone went viral this week after being roasted all over the Internet for its insane price tag of $85. Though many thought this pet rock was just a nostalgic gag gift, Nordstrom made it clear that they approve of this “beautifully designed” product.
“A paperweight? A conversation piece? A work of art? It’s up to you,” the product description reads. “But this smooth Los Angeles-area stone—wrapped in rich, vegetable-tanned American leather secured by sturdy contrast backstitching—is sure to draw attention wherever it rests. A traditional hardening process gives the leather a beautiful ombré effect. Like all Made Solid leather pieces, this one is cut, shaped, sewn and finished by hand in artist Peter Maxwell’s Los Angeles studio. Using vintage leatherworking tools and traditional saddle-stitching techniques, Maxwell aims to create beautiful designs that embody both simplicity and functionality, and that develop rich character and patina over time.”
And though Nordstrom isn’t known for the exciting, they’ve somehow already managed to sell out both versions of the leather wrapped stone.
Sounds a lot like Neiman Marcus’ $66 collard greens.
