Despite his success as a filmmaker, Darren Aronofsky (Black Swan, The Wrestler) had yet to cross over into big-budget moviemaking. He was originally set to make his blockbuster debut with last summer’s The Wolverine, but the notoriously picky director pulled out for personal reasons. This March however, the hopes of an entire studio will finally rest on Aronofsky’s shoulders when Noah, his stark retelling of the Noah’s Ark biblical tale, hits theaters. The first trailer popped online today, and features Russell Crowe in the title role as a man who sees visions of the world’s end, finally coming to the conclusion that it’ll be “death by water.” You think you know the rest of the story, but as this trailer makes clear, you have no idea. Jennifer Connelly, Anthony Hopkins and Emma Watson round out an impressive cast.
