No, Dr. Phil Was Not Endorsing Rape In That Stupid Tweet

Dr. Phil may be a grandstanding huckster and a mustachioed, walrus-shaped toothpaste-tube with legs, but did you know that he also explicitly endorses plying women with alcohol to the point of incoherence and then raping them? That’s the impression [a certain number of Twitter users] took away from a controversial tweet the good doctor posted yesterday asking whether or not it’s ok to rape a girl once she’s shit-faced and incapable of consenting. To put it one way. To put it yet another, more accurate way, he asked “If a girl is drunk, is it OK to have sex with her?”

The reactions to the tweet were swift and damning. Clearly Dr. Phil wasn’t advocating rape, and to suggest as much is disingenuous and outrage-trolling.

Yes, clearly, having sex with someone who is incapacitated is rape. Yes, having sex with someone who has diminished decision-making capacity is rape. Or is it? And how many drinks are we talking about here? And how do we tell whether or not their inhibitions are merely loosened or if they’re too far gone? Sounds like the type of thing some sort of pop culture talk show about health issues should talk about.

I’ve put in a request to a single human being on the internet who has never had sex with someone while drunk for a response, but that person doesn’t exist, so it could be a long wait here.
