If the world was ever ripe for a celebrity death hoax, it’s at this very moment. We’ve lost a baffling number of iconic musicians in 2016, and in the wake of George Michael’s unexpected death, it seems we could lose another at any moment. Some truly devious hackers took advantage of this collective despair yesterday, by hacking Sony Music Global’s twitter and claiming Britney Spears is dead.

Seems the hackers are better at taking control of Twitter accounts than they are at crafting believable death announcements, but whatever.
It seems Bob Dylan was hacked as well, as he offered his condolences via Twitter, and somehow I doubt that Dylan is Spears’ biggest fan.
De officiële accounts van Sony Music en Bob Dylan melden dat Britney Spears is omgekomen bij een ongeluk. Grote kans dat ze gehackt zijn. pic.twitter.com/CN0XW52mE9

Anyway, the tweets have since been deleted, Britney’s reps confirmed to CNN that she’s alive and well, so we can all go back to mourning the death of George Michael.
