Nicola Formichetti’s debut “Harajuku sportswear” line, Nicopanda, is completely unisex, super kawaii and available now exclusively at Opening Ceremony.
The longtime Lady Gaga stylist referenced his Japanese-Italian heritage and home bases in New York and London to create a collection that’s steeped in cross-cultural synthesis. Nicopanda plays with Japan’s cutesy Lolita fashion, London’s underground club scene and New York’s hard-edged street style—a combined look that Formichetti ‘s calling, “low-culture lux.”
Blushing pink, baby blue, clean white and jet black all pervade the collection in the form of ruffled skirts, patchwork pants, organza bomber jackets, and modified baseball caps with ruffles added at the seams.
To celebrate the arrival of Nicopanda, Opening Ceremony created a special installation at their New York and Los Angeles stores. The pastel shop-in-shop frames Formichetti’s genderless collection in the shape of a heart with roses, paper lanterns and bows all designed to reflect the clothing’s “Harajuku meets downtown” aesthetic.
