Nicki Minaj is no Rihanna, which is to say that although Minaj typically looks like a goddess, she is physically capable of looking wacky in a fashion editorial now and again. This makes it all the more impressive that the rapper is totally pulling off this bowl cut, a haircut which is second only to the mullet in its pull-off difficulty rating.
It’s appropriate that the powers at be at Nylon would present Minaj with this hairstyle challenge; after all she is starring in the forthcoming Barbershop: The Next Cut, a film which hopefully does not provide the sole purpose for this cover story (unfortunately it kind of does; her highly anticipated followup to The Pinkprint isn’t expected for quite some time). But no matter, when you look this fierce who needs projects to talk about and unlike the groomed and prepped celebs that typically grace publications, Minaj has a tendency to, you know, say truthful and interesting things, as made evident by the cover’s throwback to one of last year’s finest pop culture moments (who can forget “Miley, What’s good?”).
No epic shade throwing here, however Minaj does confirm that she is not engaged to Meek Mill, saying, “Nope! I ain’t got that third ring yet! We’re just taking it one step at a time. And, you know, if that happens, if I get married, then I’ll have a child, and that’ll be fun, because I can’t wait to hold my baby.” We’re all for baby Minajs, btw.
Meanwhile, Minaj’s bowl cut is removed (replaced?) by her signature long locks for the rest of the editorial, a bummer, because I think it looks killer.
P.S. Don’t try this at home.
